UPSTATE JANE: Building a Modern Dream, One Home at a Time

Megan Oldenburger, aka Upstate Jane, is the owner of Dichotomy Interiors, an Interior Design and Style firm based in Woodstock, NY. She writes for Upstater about design, home furnishings, real estate and culture.

After taking a hiatus from posting on Upstater over the last six months to focus on increasing client work with Dichotomy Interiors, I received an invitation to an opening reception for a property I felt was too intriguing to pass by. Although the home may be out of financial reach for many, the property is worth an ooh-and-ahh eye candy read.

The invitation was not only to showcase an amazing architectural home, but the beginning of a series of homes designed by Marica McKeel of Studio MM, pllc and built by Hank Starr, Builder LLC in Kerhonkson. I happened to know the area after spending time at a clients home for the past few months, which happened to be down the corner and around the bend (so to speak).

After the jump, more about Kerhonkson, and the minimal, modern, sleek mountain home built there. Read the rest of this entry »

Henry’s at the Farm- located within Buttermilk Falls Inn and Spa in Milton

For anyone heading Upstate this weekend or next- it is Hudson Valley Restaurant Week! What a better way to sample some of the regions amazing fall produce than a prix fixe meal at the likes of Restaurant No. 9 in Millerton, Henry’s at the Farm in Milton, Crave in Poughkeepsie, or Terrapin in Rhinebeck. Most of the restaurants are in Dutchess, Orange and Westchester County, with a sprinkling in Columbia and Ulster. The lunch prix fixe is $20.95 and the dinner is #29.95! UPSTATE JANE: 5 bedroom in Hurleyville for 159K

Megan Oldenburger, aka Upstate Jane, is the owner of Dichotomy Interiors, an Interior Design and Style firm based in Woodstock, NY. She writes for Upstater about design, home furnishings, real estate and culture.

While searching for FSBO listings, This home in Hurleyville, NY popped up on craigslist pointing to the owners blog where the home is listed at 159K. On the blog he lists the MLS/Realtors information and the price bumps to 164K, but Realtor.com has it at 159K, so I am guessing the agent just hasn’t updated her website. Regardless, this seems like a great home for a family as a full-time OR weekend retreat. Hovering around the 2 hour marker from NYC, Hurleyville is a small town in Sullivan county about 15 minutes from Monticello. The owners have done a great job decorating this space and showing off the homes potential. It seems that the kitchen and baths have been semi-updated but there are still areas to increase the homes value and put your own stamp on it.

The full listing is here

The link to the owners blog is here
