Frosty Fest entryway at Headless Horseman Hayrides, Ulster Park

Headless Horseman Hayrides has a well-earned reputation of scaring the bejeebus out of visitors during Halloween. But did you know they also go all out during Christmastime? It’s true. For the past few years, Headless Horseman has been pulling out all of the holiday stops for Frosty Fest, an event that Headless Horseman bills as a “family fun holiday light spectacular that will prove to be unlike any other event in the country.” Wow.

Ulster Park Barn, $329,000

28 ulster avenue ulster park ny

When last we looked at this converted barn in the hamlet of Ulster Park in the town of Esopus, it was $20,000 more expensive. That was back in May 2012. We still like a lot about it, like its quirky character, although there is a striking resemblance between this interior and the inside of a Cracker Barrel country store, but last time we checked Cracker Barrel doesn’t offer its diners access to a wet bar. Nearly 2,000 square feet, this is a large open space, so lots of potential for making it your canvas. Lot size is one acre. This barn would be a great place to display all of those antiquities you’ve been hoarding.

UPSTATE JANE: House above the stream with studio in Ulster Park for $225K

This looks like an ideal weekend getaway for those looking for a smaller, low-maintenance home nearby to both New Paltz and Kingston.

With an updated kitchen, bamboo floors, and a versatile heating system, it seems ready to move right in! Also the outdoor space with deck perched above a stream, helps expand the modest but comfy 1200 s.f. of the home. The bigger bonus here, is the 13×20 studio with electric on the property. One thing we have wanted since becoming weekenders (and then full-timers) is a seperate studio building. Not only is it great for people like painters, potters and artists in general- but also for wood-working, an office, and even to make a seperate sleeping quarter for visitors.

It seems like it has great potential for a weekend home!
