RoTW: Saugerties Waterfront Cottage, $99/night

126 lighthouse dr saugerties ny

Just recently, a friend of a friend reached out to us to pick our brains on seasonal rentals in the Saugerties/Woodstock area. That got us thinking about what we would look for in a rental as well as where we would begin our search. While AirBnB, VRBO, and Homeaway are all fine and dandy, we find many rental gems by using good old Craigslist. So we went there with the following criteria in mind: Close to stuff, less than $100/night, waterfront would be nice, and washer/dryer on site. And behold, we found 126 Lighthouse Drive in the village of Saugerties. Here’s the dirt: The house, which is located along the Esopus Creek about a 1/2 mile from the Saugerties Lighthouse, has two bedrooms (the second bedroom sleeps two guests), a jacuzzi tub, sun room with a view of the water, and large deck for BBQs. And, it goes for $99/night. Or, you could buy it since it’s currently for sale at $299,500. More, photos, info on the features, and other details can be found here.

Five-Figure Fridays: Saugerties Colonial, $99,900

82 main street saugerties ny

Quite selfishly, we’ve been eyeballing this Colonial on Main Street in Saugerties for a while, waiting for the price to drop and drop and drop some more. And here it is, finally under $100,000. It needs work, and it’s a cash only situation, but it’s in a great location, particularly if you’ve got school-age kids (Cahill Elementary is practically next door and the Jr./Sr. high school is less than a mile away). Also across the street from the farmers market when that’s up and running. Lot size is small and typical for this part of town. It’s a beauty already, but we would love to see a spruced-up interior. While a fixer-upper certainly doesn’t scare us away, the taxes made us cringe. You’d think we would be desensitized to such things by now.

Saugerties Mystery House, $69,900

56 hill street saugerties ny

What makes this relatively attractive house in the village of Saugerties a mystery? Well, we drive by it nearly every day since it’s on our way to Kingston via Route 9W south, and every time we do, we play a game called “Find the Driveway”. So far, we’ve had no luck ascertaining where the driveway to this house might be located. In fact, it seems to be lacking any entrance or egress all together. We’ve speculated that the entrance is actually around turn on Route 9W, but we’re not entirely sure. Here’s what we do know: It’s located right along the Esopus Creek, walking distance to the village beach. It’s also down the hill from the heart of the village, so it’s convenient to lots of things. We like that it’s tucked back into the woods in a clearing, and while the inside looks like it needs some updating, it looks okay.

Saugerties Cube, $494,000

59 windbourne lane saugerties ny

We’ve been watching the price of the unique cube house in Saugerties drop and drop and drop over the past couple of years, and it now it seems to be approaching decently-priced. According to the listing, 85-90% of the wood used to build this house was harvest from the site. It includes radiant heat on all floors, hot water on demand, heavily insulated roof to hold in the heat, and both a wood stove and a fire place. Plus, it’s quite spacious and airy on the inside, like a modern loft space, and check out those mountain views from the deck.
