RoTW: Milan Cape, $2,000/month

750 salisbury turnpike milan ny

If you’ve driven out past Rhinebeck on Route 199 and taken any of the side roads, you know that the country is awfully pretty and idyllic. This nearly 3,000 square foot cape on 5 acres looks like just the place to live in order to take it all in and fairly decent price for what you’re getting, which includes an enclosed porch, wood floors, built-ins, French doors, detached garage, and a sharp kitchen. Milan is a small hamlet in Dutchess County located approximately 9 miles from Rhinebeck, 6.5 miles from Red Hook, and convenient to the Taconic Parkway.

Upstater Destinations: Woodstock Film Festival, Oct 3-6

 woodstock film festival

Upstate New York is truly the place to be during the fall. You’ve got your pretty leaves, and you’ve got your Garlic Festival. You’ve got your U-Pick trips to various orchards for way too many apples (which, this year, apparently, means you’ll be picking those apples in 80 degree weather). You’ve got Restaurant Week coming up next month, and, you’ve got the Woodstock Film Festival this weekend.

RoTW: Rhinebeck Cottage, $1,600/mo.

12 carmel drive rhinebeck ny

The rent for this 3-bed cottage in Rhinebeck seems completely reasonable when you consider what you’re getting: 1,200 square feet on five acres of land, lots of windows, cathedral ceilings, newly-renovated, located on pretty River Road less than two miles from Rhinebeck village and a little over two miles from the Rhinecliff train station. It’s available to rent right this very second, and the landlords pay for trash pick-up and grounds upkeep. As usual, we wish the photos were better, but that brick living room with the fire place makes it tantalizing, even in pixelated  low-res. Our big questions is, are the tenants allowed to use the huge greenhouse on the property? Because dang.

The Dutchess County Fair in Pictures

The Dutchess County Fair just opened on August 20th, so we decided to head over with the surly pre-teens in tow to check out the goings-on. It was close to evening, so the lighting made the illuminated fairway look downright magical at times. The fair contains all of the basic requisites: Rides (prepare to pay for individual tickets, with most rides costing 3, 4, and 5 tickets each), various fried foods (our favorite? Spacey Tracey’s fried pickles, which are a whole basket-o-noms), livestock, games, exhibits, and crafts vendors. It’s easy to drop a lot of cash on extraneous odds and ends, but we always enjoy taking a wander though the antique village, people-watching, and, of course, snapping a few pictures. We even managed to catch the full blue moon in a couple of shots. The fair runs through August 25th at the Dutchess County Fairgrounds in Rhinebeck.
