Car-Free Country House: Red Hook Colonial, $350,000

78 fraleigh street red hook ny

Our recent discover of the Dutchess County LOOP bus has opened a few more doors for car-free possibilities. This lovely center hall Colonial, for example, is located in the Dutchess County village of Red Hook, and the center of town is a stop on the LOOP which will get passengers to the Metro-North train station in Poughkeepsie in just a touch over 30 minutes. Not too shabby, in our estimation. The house is walking distance to both the bus stop and town, where you’ll find plenty of places at which to shop and eat, and schools are within walking distance, as well. This house falls squarely into “Goldilocks” territory: Pretty, close to town, reasonably-priced, and sitting on a full acre of land. In other words, just right.

Red Hook Center Hall Colonial, $590,000

10 old post road north red hook ny

This circa-1810 Colonial is just grand in and of itself, but we found ourselves all swoony over the kitchen, specifically. All that space and the high ceilings with a door onto a patio. We could definitely get used to slinging hash in there. The other details are darn- near perfection, as well, for a well-kept early 19th century abode: Big windows, a bright interior, fireplaces, columned porch, and a carriage house/garage that looks ready to become a work/art/play place. Located on nearly an acre-and-a-half about 2.5 miles from the Red Hook village in Dutchess County.

Rosie 151, Filthy Gorgeous Burlesque

Sorry, friends. You’re going to have to leave your kids with the sitter for this event, but perhaps the idea of a little more mature entertainment might be tantalizing to you, since all of the kid-friendly fall and Halloween stuff is over. If that’s the case, come to the Two Boots Pizzeria in Red Hook (Dutchess County, not Brooklyn) for the Filthy Gorgeous Burlesque Show. The show was created by New York Burlesque Festival producer Jen Gapay and features vaudeville acts, magic, comedy, music, and, of course, scantily-clad Burlesque performers.
