Five-Figure Friday: Oneonta Village Victorian, $80,000

56 ford avenue oneonta ny

Might as well stay in Oneonta today for some five-figure fun. Here’s a doozy that someone should jump on with all speed: Village Victorian in great condition, still in the midst of a renovation, but nearly there. The kitchen in particular still needs work, but we can’t tell if there are other things the pictures don’t show. Either way, it’s an attractive house, and it’s walking distance to shops, restaurants, SUNY Oneonta, etc. The listings says it’s already been approved for HomePath renovation mortgage through FanniMae. Awfully tempting…

Oneonta Victorian, $159,900

46 elm st oneonta ny

The Otsego County city of Oneonta rarely disappoints when it comes to affordable properties. This Victorian is right in town, about a half-mile from the Trailways bus stop, close to the center of all the action, walking distance to local businesses and schools. And my how it shines. We love the robin’s egg blue of the front room leading up the ornate staircase, the copper backsplash in the kitchen, the fireplace, and the French doors. Looks like the rear exterior could use a little splash of paint, but otherwise, it’s quite a little beauty, this one.

Car-Free Country House: Oneonta Victorian, $225,000

53 center street oneonta ny

Some people consider Oneonta in Otsego County is a bit far north for their tastes, but we think you get a lot of bang for your buck there. Here, you get 6 beds/2.5 baths, over 3,000 square feet, wrap-around porch, built-in shelves, a cool retro kitchen, and crazy high ceilings. We’re not nuts about the wallpaper, but we’re willing to look past it. The Victorian is located about a half-mile from the Trailways bus station on Market Street, which is will take you 11 minutes to walk there, according to Google maps. You could call a cab, though, if the weather’s poor or you just don’t feel like hoofing it that day. It’s also just a block from a grocery/deli, plus lots of other Oneonta city stuff.

Sunny Oneonta Victorian, $245,000

Boy did we have to make some tough choices. So many great houses to choose from, so few days in a week. Hopefully, however, our little snap shot into Oneonta will spur your own investigation into the city’s drool-worthy properties.

We’ve been particularly enjoying the price per square footage numbers on houses, like this one. Less than $100/square foot gets you a 2500 square foot cheerful, neat-as-a-pin Victorian with new and remodeled everything, with a walk-up attic and a shed for more storage. The only fly in the ointment for us is the kitchen. It’s not a mess, but it’s pretty plain compared to the rest of the house. It seems like it’s always the kitchen that gets ignored, doesn’t it? Can’t tell you how many amazing houses we’ve seen with blah kitchens. Regardless, we like everything else, including the exposed brick in the master bedroom.

Another great house at a super-affordable price. Well played, Oneonta. Well played.
