Five-Figure Friday: Monroe Bungalow Cottage, $50,000

20 woodland circle north monroe ny

At last! A property in Monroe that doesn’t have heart-stoppingly high taxes! Of course, it’s a small bungalow, just 680 square feet, on a lot that’s a quarter of an acre, and it’s not in the village of Monroe, which seems to help. It looks like the perfect romantic retreat, or a writer’s escape to the wilderness. But only during some of the year, since it’s seasonal, but there is a fireplace for chilly nights and mornings. You also get access to a community pool. Located on Schunemunk Mountain, the highest mountain in Orange County.

Monroe Lakeside Mini-Estate, $499,000

100 osseo park road monroe ny

What we love about this lake estate on Walton Lake in Monroe is less about what’s going on inside the main house, but more about the additional buildings on the property in addition to its prime location. So what’s included aside from the main 4 bed/3 bath house? Two guest cottages, a two-story boat house, and a two-car detached garage/workshop. That’s a lot of room. It’s different that much of what we found in Monroe, to be sure, with lots of pretty lake views from the various patios around the half-acre property. If you’re not a fan of knotty pine, however, the interiors might be a bit of an assault on the senses. Although we’re not members of the Knotty Pine Fan Club ourselves, we find their use here to be completely unobjectionable. It works somehow. Or maybe we’re just blinded by our love of lake houses. So be it.

Monroe Colonial, $181,500

25 maple avenue monroe ny

It’s cute, affordable, and listed on the National Historic Registry and located within the village’s Historic District off of Stage Road. The lot size is small, even for a residential area, but it’s close to the Monroe Ponds, walking trails, and stuff in the village. We think it’s pretty charming, with French doors and that nifty front porch. The purple and pink bathroom might be a bit much for our taste, but the rest of the house seems fine. Includes a basement and attic for more space.

Monroe Contemporary Chalet, $799,000

1233 NYS route 208 monroe ny

Looking for a home large enough to fit several city apartments inside of it? Check this one out. Quite frankly, it’s massive at 10,000+ square feet, which is great if you 1) have a huge family, 2) always have tons of house guests (there’s an entire wing devoted to guest quarters), 3) can’t stand to be around other people. This house has a room for everything: Game room, pub room, pantry room, gym room, spa room, and a wine cellar. It’s also on nearly 13 acres and comes with a separate kennel. The one thing missing? A pool. Bummer. The taxes might give you a bit of a heart attack, so just make sure you’re sitting down when you see them after the jump.
