Five-Figure Friday: Millerton Cabin, $92,500

190 beilke road millerton ny

There’s not much in the way of five-figure properties in the village of Millerton, but we did find this 620-square foot 1 bedroom cabin. In spite of its diminutive size, the property includes an additional three outbuildings, including a Quonset hut and a couple of storage sheds. Lot size is nothing spectacular; just a half-acre. But, it’s close to the village, and some of us have certainly lived in smaller spaces.

Millerton Colonial + Pond, $249,911

17 state line road millerton ny

Another day in Millerton offers us yet another pin-cute house with pretty mountain views. And this one has a pond, allegedly. It’s also located on two acres right outside the village, still close to everything and yet, with a little distance, too. House needs a little work, but overall, it looks a-okay to us. We often toy with the idea of taking the doors off of our kitchen cabinetry, just so we can achieve the same look as the kitchen in this house, but then we remember that we would have to keep them neat and clean them out occasionally. Ah, well. Another decorating fantasy ruined by harsh cold reality.

Upstater Destinations: Date Night in Millerton

no. 9 millerton

The patio at No. 9 in Millerton

Ah, Date Night: Every Friday night across the country, couples and smug marrieds everywhere call their sitters, knock off early from the office, and try to come up with something creative and romantic to do with their precious alone time. We don’t know about you, but more often than not, Date Night is more “sweats, Chinese, Netflix on the couch” than “sexy dress and a French restaurant”, and that’s a darn shame. Upstate New York can be pretty romantic, with all its natural beauty, sultry summer nights, and cool little tucked-away hangouts. We thought we’d help you out a bit by offering a suggestion for Date Night in our Town of the Week, Millerton, and as it turns out, Millerton is a good spot to go out on a quiet, low-key date.

No. 9 Restaurant is located Main Street, and chef Tim Cocheo’s menu is French-inspired locavore goodness. What struck us right away is that nearly every appetizer has some variation of truffle in it, which is enough to sell us. In fact, we would visit there for the Quark Spatzle alone. Plus, we find the outdoor patio to be cozy and quite romantic, with Tiki torches illuminating quiet evenings.

….And a Movie

Millerton’s local non-super-megaplex theater is called the Moviehouse. Not only does it show a handful of first-run movies, they also have a line-up of indie films, live events (Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me is being broadcast live from the Moviehouse on May 2), Metropolitan Opera performances on screen in HD, and plays. They even have their own art gallery/cafe.

No. 9 is open Tuesday-Saturday, and Moviehouse is showing movies every night of the week except Sundays. There. Date Night planned. You can thank us later.

Redwood Cottage in Millerton, $229,000

5621 route 22 millerton ny

Talk about seclusion. There’s another house nearby, but they’re hardly next door neighbors, and most of what we see surrounding this 1,000 square foot cottage are trees, trees, and still more trees. So, we hope the buyer likes trees! We certainly do. We also like the idea of opening every door and window in this house on summer days thanks to the privacy factor, not to mention the vaulted ceilings and open floor plan. Can’t really complain about the mountain views from the wrap around porch, either.
