Old Plaster Walls

After a slightly longer hiatus than we planned, the Weekenders are back!  We had a great summer with a successfully pulled-off wedding that included great music, tasty food, and of course a fabulous location (our barn). Then we got totally caught up in gardening and yard work through the amazing Indian summer we had this year with tomatoes and zucchini into October. Now that winter has really set in with 4 degrees on the day after Thanksgiving, we’re gearing up for some more house projects including figuring out what to do with some old plaster walls.

Lexington Chalet, $239,000

112 todd hill road lexington ny

Knotty pine haters, beware: There’s a whole mess of it in this chalet-style house in Lexington. But we don’t find it so objectionable in here, partly because it’s tempered by a wall of windows, which helps break it up a little and provide heaps of natural light. Other stuff we like: The wood stove, the high ceilings, the open floor plan, the giant deck, and the cool bath. Chalet styles are generally low on our favorites list; however, this one works for us. Plus, it’s situated on nearly two acres with pretty mountain views nowhere near water, which means a low flood risk.

Lexington Cedar-Sided Cape, $279,000

112 fawn hill road lexington ny

This seems like a solid, unique choice in the Lexington area, and it’s nowhere near any bodies of water, which makes it a low-risk for flooding. It’s roomy with an open floor plan, and those high, cathedral ceilings with the round windows push it over the edge from so-so to attractive. Includes a detached garage and five acres of land. Located about 15 minutes from Hunter Mountain, less than 20 minutes from Windham Mountain, and about 3 miles from Lexington.

West Kill Cabin, $188,500

22 mink hollow road westkill ny

The listing doesn’t indicate whether this cottage on three acres just outside of Lexington is seasonal, and if it is, the price is too steep for our taste. But that doesn’t mean it doesn’t possess some cozy charm. It’s close to Hunter by about 20 minutes or so, and while it’s small (less than 700 square feet), the kitchen looks workable and there are two bedrooms. Mink Hollow Road is near the West Kill, so this property may be at risk for flooding. Listing states that the property includes an additional .43 acre parcel.
