Colonial in Lagrangeville, $445,000

It’s not exactly what’s going on inside this house that we like, although it seems nice enough. We like the large kitchen (and that cool ivy-covered ladder/dish towel rack. Wonder if it stays with the house) and the cute bedrooms, but we we particularly like about this house is what’s on the outside. Specifically, the stream on the 2-acre property, the barn with the extra loft space/office, screened-in porch, garden, and the greenhouse. Expensive for the size ($200/square foot), but perhaps worth a look for all the extra goodies.

Georgian Colonial in Lagrangeville, $775,000

Pardon us while we have a week-long love affair with some gorgeous, sprawling houses in Lagrangeville. Much like yesterday’s farmhouse, this circa-1770 Georgian Colonial is probably out of a lot of folks’ price range. But as we’ve said before, looking is free, and this one is fun to look at. And really, when you crunch the numbers, this house shakes out to about $141/square foot, which is not so bad, right? It’s practically a bargain! Just try not to think about the $14,000/year tax fee. Turn your thoughts, instead, to the gigantic kitchen, the 9 acres upon which the house sits, the four fireplaces, and the in-ground pool.

Lagrangeville Farmhouse, $690,000

We were pretty much packing our bags as we looked at the luscious pictures of this 1930s farmhouse in Lagrangeville. It’s got nearly everything we want: Big windows, high ceilings, French doors, lots-o-land (14 acres), privacy, a kitchen with tons of cupboards and storage (no kitchen ever seems to have enough to satisfy our hoarder-like tendencies when it comes to kitchen ephemera), a barn, and a swimming pool. Own a plane? There’s an airport nearby. Maybe we can make this work as a Car-Free Country House? No need for a car! Just fly everywhere!

Anyway, it’s a really pretty house. Take a look.

Lagrangeville Train Depot, $220,000

It isn’t cheap, it’s very small, and it needs work. But it’s the former Lagrange railroad station, located in the hamlet of Lagrangeville (Dutchess County), so of course we like it. It’s been converted to a 1 bed/1bath, but here’s still work that needs to be done. The loft portion, for example, looks unfinished. But it’s a little hard to tell since the pictures show a limited scope of the property. The outside looks like it has been renovated, at least. Here’s what it used to look like, compared to the photo above:

It’s adorable and cozy. And by cozy, we mean tiny. Just a smidge over 500 square feet. The property size isn’t bad, though, at 1.64 acres. It’s located in a mixed-use zone in the hamlet of Lagrangeville, which means that it could be converted to a business if living in it just seems too darn cramped. We like that the old ticket window was left in place.
