Hyde Park or Olana for the Philharmonic?

new-york-philharmonic

A reader alerted us to this happy news, or almost news, that the New York Philharmonic is checking out Hyde Park for a summer home. “The Manhattan-based orchestra is considering a 339-acre parcel on Route 9 across from the Culinary Institute of America for its summer residence,” writes the Poughkeepsie Journal.

Though the prospect of a fine meal before an evening of chamber music does sound appealing, another site is competing for the Philharmonic’s attention: Olana in Hudson, one of the most beautiful houses with one of the most beautiful views we’ve seen in the Hudson Valley.

But the Hyde Park spot has plenty going for it. “Plans being discussed for the property include a performance pavilion similar to Saratoga Performing Arts Center north of Albany, a 150-room hotel, restaurants, a residential property, and farming fields that would provide food for the restaurants.”
