Aquarium/Gallery Proposed for Hudson Warehouse

dunn warehouse

Here’s something we’re excited about: We just read in the Register-Star that there’s a proposal floating around to turn the old Dunn Warehouse on Water Street in Hudson into an aquarium/gallery space. It came before the Hudson Common Council this past Monday. The article gives more details about what’s on tap for the old warehouse, but in a nutshell, the group heading up the proposal, Hudson Praxis, is envisioning a two-story center with tanks with aquatic life and plants as well as ponds for stream education. Additionally, the plan includes a sky gallery and observation deck. Sounds like a great re-use of this cool old building, if you ask us. If you think so, too, you can throw some money at the aquarium/gallery via Hudson Praxis’ Indiegogo campaign (Hudson Praxis is a volunteer group). The campaign page also includes floor plans and spec illustrations for the center. The location for this place couldn’t be better: It’s right next to the Amtrak station, the Henry Hudson waterfront park, and Basilica Hudson.

Car-Free Upstate: Hudson Greek Revival, $725,000

325 allen street hudson ny

This Green Revival in Hudson just a couple of blocks from the Hudson Amtrak station is practically a bargain next to the other high-priced properties we’ve been gawking at this week. Still, we wouldn’t kick it out of bed for eating crackers. Love the big front porch, tiled entryway, marble fireplaces, loads of windows, the two-story deck in the rear of the house, and a lovely landscaped yard over nearly a half-acre. The house includes a first floor apartment with its own entrance, which would be a fine thing for additional income, but we would rather convert it into a space included with the rest of the house.

Hudson Modern, $3.4 million

If you’re going to build a house with a view of the Hudson, you might as well make the house as see-through as possible. The stunning vista from the dining room of this 2007 modern in Hudson is all the decoration it needs, hence the wall of windows. You get the same view from the in-ground pool, too. With so much going on outside the house, we appreciate how clean and understated the interior is, right down to the strikingly minimalist kitchen. The boasts bamboo walls, a hidden hot tub, living room fireplace, and nearly 4 acres of land perched on a Mt. Merino ridge.

Hudson Flowershop/Apartment, $549,000

128 green street hudson ny

If you’re looking to take over an existing, well-established business, this might be a good bet. The Rosery is located in Hudson (we’ve driven past it many times, never gone inside), but the whole building, including the 3 bed apartment upstairs, is just delightful. Good-looking store with tin ceilings, wooden walk-in floral refrigerators, tile floors, and plenty of space. Upstairs, the apartment has wood floors, French doors, built-ins, and plenty of windows to let in natural light. And it’s just a few blocks from Warren Street.
