Stamford Contemporary, $199,900

2071 tower mtn rd stamford ny

Since we’re doing rentals all week, we decided to use our usual Tuesday RoTW spot to feature a property that we think could make a nice little home away from home. And up in Delaware County, you can get a whole lotta drama (as far as views are concerned) for less than $200,000 with this contemporary hillside cottage. With design elements inspired by Lloyd Wright, the cottage is a gem located on 2.5 acres near a gem of a village, Stamford. The living room and the sweeping views from it are almost worth the listing price alone. By the way, we noticed recently that Trulia has started posting GreatSchools.com district ratings on all of their posts, and the Stamford Central School district “exceeds standard.” Good to know.

New Kingston Victorian, $159,000

5157 cty hwy 6 new kingston ny

Just to end the suspense right away, New Kingston is nowhere near Old Kingston. Rather, it’s a hamlet up in Delaware County, about five miles straight north of Margaretville, and this market newbie is situated there. We were most impressed with the exterior (perhaps the porch needs a little touching up), and while the interior is fine, we think it could use some fine-tuning, starting with what appears to be wood paneling in the living room. Not really our cup of tea, but the river rock fire place is. Also has a big kitchen with built-ins, plus an attached workshop and a detached barn/garage. With it comes a half-acre lot that abuts farmland. Not bad for $159,000.

Callicoon Victorian, $119,000

54 upper main street callicoon ny

As if you need another reason to like Callicoon, but here’s one, anyway, in the form of an inexpensive 3 bed/1.5 bath hamlet house that was just recently put on the market. It appears to be in great condition, with lots of good stuff like wood floors, a pellet stove in the living room (speaking of the living room, is that shelving unit/entertainment center built in?), French doors, bay windows, and a sharp kitchen. It’s also been neatly landscaped with attractive plantings and stone retaining walls. Close to the Callicoon Creek, and walking distance to Callicoon, which is a wee charming hamlet, indeed. Floodsmart.gov gives this house a high-risk rating for flooding due to its proximity to the creek.

Catskill Colonial, $189,900

199 spring street catskill ny

And the Catskill bargains keep rolling in. Here’s a pretty Colonial on Spring Street in the village, just across the way from the Thomas Cole historic site. While we find the exterior and some elements of the interior pleasing, we feel that some aspects could use some updating/changing, like the floral wallpapering. The bathroom is a little blah, and we have no idea what the kitchen looks like. But it seems to have been well cared for, and it’s surrounding by other lovely properties. Includes a back patio and detached 2-car garage.
