Before and After Home Renovation Newburgh

It’s not secret that Newburgh has many abandoned homes. But, there are people restoring homes, one at a time. This home took more than a year to get from A to B. The impact it makes on the neighborhood is huge. One old resident said that this home was in decline since 20 years ago. What a difference a restored home makes! To see more homes like this check out Newburgh Before and Afters.

Newburgh Arts and Crafts $219,000

This home is being advertised as part of one of the LAST original Arts & Crafts Streets in NY State. And supposedly the builder marked the date 1919 in the attic. The exterior sure is pretty, and it’s only a walk down the block towards the yacht club and waterfront. The interior looks like it has for the most part never changed. Wood moldings and beams are still virgin, not a drop of paint in sight. Located just south of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge, this neighborhood is a more secluded area of Newburgh.

30 Park Place, Newburgh
Asking Price: $219,000
Year Built: 1919
Size: 1,326 sq ft
Distance to NYC: 57.9 mi, 1 hour 9 mins
Public Transportation: MetroNorth to Beacon, then take ferry across
Closest Roadways: 9W, I-87, I-84

Newburgh Elks Lodge, James Riely Gordon Design, $500,000

This is the former Elks Lodge on 155 Liberty Street has dropped in price by $250k. It was designed by famous architect of the time, James Riely Gordon. He designed many courthouses all over the entire country. This is part of some “developers package” deal where the buyer can obtain 8 other properties through the purchase of this one. That will probably fluctuate the price a bit.

The Elks bought this property in 1909 back when it was considered “the old hospital property on Liberty Street,” and in 1930 voted to build this building. Mr. Gordon died a few years later. I’m not sure who would be a candidate for this building. But, it’s extremely handsome, and has remained in tact all of these years. There’s a dinning room, industrial kitchen, bar and meeting room that could probably be a ballroom etc… Thank goodness “urban renewal” didn’t claim this building too. Take a peep below.

155 Liberty Street, Newburgh
Asking Price: $500,000
Year Built: c. 1900
Size: 17,652 sq ft
Distance to NYC: 58.6 mi, 1 hour 10 mins
Public Transportation: MetroNorth to Beacon, then take ferry across
Closest Roadways: 9W, I-87, I-84

Stunning Hudson River View Victorian in Newburgh, $280,000

This home is one of the best homes you could wish for in Newburgh. The location, the condition, and the views are all spot on. The Hudson River is basically your front yard at this home located on the bluff, in the Heights neighborhood. There are views of West Point, Bannerman’s Island, and the Newburgh Beacon Bridge.

The neighboring houses are full of proactive neighbors, who on various levels are working towards the revitalization of Newburgh. Seriously, the people next door invited me to have wine and cheese with them just as I was strolling by.

As far as the interior, everything has been beautifully maintained and updated with the character of the home. This home is being sold by the owners, and they are willing to rent to own as well. See below for more drool-worthy photos and the website with contact information.

Real Estate Porn: Newburgh Contemporary with River Views, $2,195,000

A pool facing the Hudson River? Yes please! It looks like the perfect back drop for a music video, doesn’t it? The view is attention grabbing enough, but the rest of the house does have great features too. The only problem? The listing doesn’t show any of them. They maintained their focus on the view and the gorgeous trees surrounding the property. I get it. But the house has 5,500 sq ft. Why not show the rest of the house? Like the library or one of the other 17 rooms with glass fireplaces or the circa 1900 bar? It’s also being listed as a multi-family home. Do you think that will put a dent in the mortgage?

Check out the details and more views below.

River Road, Newburgh
Asking Price: $2,195,000
Year Built: N/A
Size: 5,500 sq ft
Distance to NYC: 58.6 mi, 1 hour 10 mins
Public Transportation: MetroNorth to Beacon, then take ferry across

Historical Victorian Queen Anne Estate in Newburgh for $1,530,000

Looking at high-end Newburgh real estate is like being in the candy store. DROOL! The location is technically Newburgh, although this area is referred to as Balmville, which is located north of the Newburgh-Beacon Bridge. This is not the City of Newburgh.

Set on 3 acres, the grounds are spacious and private. The listing gives some clues on the history of the home. It was built in 1880 for a local industrialist. And the estate was one time home to the Jova family who owned the JJJ Brickyard in nearby Roseton from 1885 to 1968. The home is over 130 years old, but has been immaculately taken care of. There are 16 rooms! Get your duster ready! Back in the day around 1920 a caretaker cottage was built. It looks like it comes with the sale of the house too. Who wouldn’t just want to live in the cottage as a weekend getaway? Sigh…

See below for more drool-worthy photos and details.

Friday Real Estate Porn: Orange Lake Contemporary in Newburgh, $849,000

Orange Lake used to be a huge tourist destination at the beginning of the 1900′s. Although the trolley’s and fair grounds are gone, the lake is still beautiful. It was hard picking out just a few photos of this home. The home is only about 11 years old, but has the arts and crafts character of a home built 100 years ago. Every detail was thought of, and the views are the cherry on top. Even though the furnishings aren’t my cup of tea, they fit the home perfectly. Maybe they’ll add them to the sale?

By the way, this is in the Town of Newburgh, not the City.

I’d die to have the sun coming through my bedroom window. Not like the dark box of an apartment I live in now. Sigh….

379 Lakeside Rd Newburgh, NY 12550
Asking Price: $849,000

Newburgh Brewery Officially Opens

The Hudson Valley is about to add another brewery to the list. This time from Newburgh! The beer branded with the city’s very own name is a huge boost in morale and revitalization of the City of Newburgh. The beer will be distributed all over the Hudson Valley and NYC. Thirty establishments are already on the list to be serving Newburgh Beer. Brewmaster Chris Basso learned his skills from them well known Brooklyn Brewery.

A taproom/restaurant with Hudson River views should be opening by May. All of the details of the brewery can be found here, or their fan page. There is also a great THR article discussing the event and how the brewery came to be.

This Newburgh Tudor has some nice updates. It lies on the northern part of the city, just west of Mount St. Mary College. Some of the great features are the high ceilings and exposed beams. Also the fireplace in the garden level (basement) is a nice touch too. The kitchen looks clean and functional, and the porch out back looks like a perfect hang out spot, kitties and all. See below for more details.
