Rental of the Week: Jeffersonville Farmhouse, $1,000/week

The Jeffersonville farmhouse we’re featuring as this week’s RotW has the distinction of being the oldest house in town. Perhaps more interestingly, however, is Wikipedia’s claim that from 1897-1898, Jeffersonville boasted a total beer consumption of 3000 kegs. The town’s population was, in those days, 500 total. So one could assume that the residents of Jeffersonville knew how to get down, at least in late 19th century terms.

But if you’re looking for a slower, less liver-destroying type of fun, this summer rental could be your place. It’s certainly picturesque, located next to the Calicoon Creek in Sullivan County and close to Main Street in Jeffersonville. The 4-bedroom house is on an acre and can accommodate three couples or a family with kids in tow.

The rental’s website lists its close proximity to Bethel Woods Performing Arts Center amongst its amenities, as well as a fish-stocked creek on the property and nearby Catskill Mountain hiking trailheads. And while it does provide rates ($3000/month May-Sept, $2000/month off-season, $1000/week), the website doesn’t give availability, so you’ll need to email the proprietor  for the skinny. Here’s the Jeffersonville GMAP.

Pig Out for the Catskills on Oct 15

And speaking of DIY Catskills fundraising: Jimmy’s No. 43, the East Village bar/gastropub of the moment, is holding a Pig Out event on the weekend of Oct 15 in Jeffersonville and Callicoon Center. (Orientation points: that’s in Sullivan County, near Bethel.) It’s $35 for advance tix, $45 if you’re not a planner, and all money goes to Farmhearts, a non-profit helping farm families in the Catskills.

The event will feature four chefs roasting eight Catskills-raised whole pigs in open pits, plus local wine and beers and veggie sides. Tix for Pig Mountain Catskills can be bought here. For a schedule of the activities, click here.
