Olivebridge Cottage w/Pool, $150/night

olivebridge rental

We were recently asked if we knew of any rentals in the Ulster County area large enough for a family, $3000-$6000/month, with a pool. Tall order! But, we found this cottage in Olivebridge for $150/night or $1,500/week, and behold: It has a pool. And it sleeps 6-8 over 3 bedrooms, which might be a little cozy if you’re planning on being a party of 8, but 6 should be okay. Love the green kitchen and the screened-in porch. We think this is a pretty good deal, and so do a lot of other people, apparently. Its availability is very limited, but if you’re looking for a few days away from it all in order to luxuriate in a pool and do some BBQing, this could be the place for you. It’s also pet-friendly with a fenced-in yard.

Woodstock Cottage, $395/night

woodstock stone cottage

Here’s a rental we found thanks to one of our readers, who also owns the property. The Woodstock stone cottage is off Wittenberg Road, just minutes from Wilson campground and is situated on more than 12 acres, so privacy seems virtually assured. Of course, the first thing to catch our eye is the floor-to-ceiling picture window in the living room. Also of note are all of the little places around the property to escape with a book and a sketch pad. Includes a stone patio for BBQing, hot tub, mountain bikes, hammock, and wifi, and the description says that a swimming lake is a 10 minute walk away. Accommodate 8 guests divided up over 4 bedrooms. Only nightly rates are available, but long-term renters are welcome, so says the Homeaway.com description. A quick glance at the availability shows a lot of weekends blocked out, but plenty of weekdays available through the summer months.

Rosendale Bali House, $6000/month

hv bali house2

We’ve been looking for an excuse to post about this house in Rosendale for months now. It’s cropped up in our searches because it was on the market until the beginning of this year, when some very smart people with good taste scooped it up and made the fabulous rental property you see before you. This slice of Zen is situate on its own stream-fed pond (perfect for swimming. Who needs a pool?), and the interior is resplendent with detailed Balinese carvings throughout. Also included: High bamboo ceilings, an outdoor shower, wrap-around patio, and a meditation sanctuary with a nearly 360 degree view of the pond outside. Yes, $6000/month is a lot, but it accommodates 8, and it’s close to Rosendale, Kingston, High Falls, Stone Ridge, and New Paltz. Or, if you’d rather keep it shorter and cheaper, you could pay $300-$350/night, two night minimum stay.

Car-Free Upstate Update: Kingston Two-Story, $229,000

33 warren st kingston ny

Remember this nice Kingston home we posted about back in July 2013? We recently heard from the owners who told us that the house was taken off the market during the winter. Some pipes burst during those cold snaps, but since then, they’ve replaced the floors, kitchen cabinets, and light fixtures, and they’ve added a new high-efficiency natural gas furnace, as well as a few other upgrades. Their contractor is Brian Early, who was responsible for the interior design of Boitson’s and Elephant Wine Bar in Kingston. Anyway, the house is back on the market with all kinds of nice new photos on the listing, so have a look-see. It’s located about a half-mile from the Trailways bus station on Washington Avenue in uptown Kingston, and if you don’t feel like hoofing it, you can always call a cab to get you home.
