Walton Farmhouse, $1,500/month

walton farmhouse rental

This c.1850 farmhouse up in Walton, Delaware County might be an economical choice for a summer getaway to the Catskills. During the peak summer season, the house, which is located on 7 acres, is only $1,500 a month ($500/week or $117/night, so it’s actually cheaper to rent by the week or month). After the peak season is over, the rent becomes even cheaper, dropping down to $700/month in the winter. It looks like a sweet place. Includes an antique kitchen, screened-in porch, pretty views, a clawfoot tub, and private deck. While the owner doesn’t provide specific info on the location of the house, we know it’s near Walton, which looks like a cute village that’s close to lots of outdoor activities, like hiking, fishing, horseback riding, and golf. The farmhouse accommodates max. 4 guests in 2 bedrooms. So far, the availability is wide-open for the summer.

Stamford Contemporary, $199,900

2071 tower mtn rd stamford ny

Since we’re doing rentals all week, we decided to use our usual Tuesday RoTW spot to feature a property that we think could make a nice little home away from home. And up in Delaware County, you can get a whole lotta drama (as far as views are concerned) for less than $200,000 with this contemporary hillside cottage. With design elements inspired by Lloyd Wright, the cottage is a gem located on 2.5 acres near a gem of a village, Stamford. The living room and the sweeping views from it are almost worth the listing price alone. By the way, we noticed recently that Trulia has started posting GreatSchools.com district ratings on all of their posts, and the Stamford Central School district “exceeds standard.” Good to know.

Five-Figure Friday: Andes Schoolhouse, $99,900

6275 fall clove road andes ny

The Delaware County town of Andes doesn’t skimp on the charm. We’re not just referring to the hamlet of Andes but the whole town, which has a multitude of attractive properties on the market. Included among them is this converted c.1925 schoolhouse located about 10 minutes of Andes hamlet, out on a rural stretch called Fall Clove Road. Although the lot size is small, it’s adjacent to lots of farm land, so no crowding here. The interior is neat as a pin, although it’s small, there’s still room for nice details like the pressed tin backsplash in the kitchen. No pictures of the upstairs, though. Includes two storage sheds.

New Kingston Victorian, $159,000

5157 cty hwy 6 new kingston ny

Just to end the suspense right away, New Kingston is nowhere near Old Kingston. Rather, it’s a hamlet up in Delaware County, about five miles straight north of Margaretville, and this market newbie is situated there. We were most impressed with the exterior (perhaps the porch needs a little touching up), and while the interior is fine, we think it could use some fine-tuning, starting with what appears to be wood paneling in the living room. Not really our cup of tea, but the river rock fire place is. Also has a big kitchen with built-ins, plus an attached workshop and a detached barn/garage. With it comes a half-acre lot that abuts farmland. Not bad for $159,000.
