Help an Upstate Family in Need (By Finding Them an Apartment in Westchester)

Dear readers: friends of Upstater have received some grave news about their child, and need to relocate from Columbia County to Westchester, to be near Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. They still work upstate, thus the search for an apartment in between.

So, please help: they’re in search of a three-bedroom apartment with laundry for $2000 or less, preferably near Tarrytown or below. It’s a tall order, we know, so any leads would be appreciated. You can email them to us and we’ll pass them on. Thanks.

Drew Fixell I don’t know what the rents are (and unfortunately also don’t know the name of the complex), but I believe there is a dog-friendly apartment complex near Elmsford on 119, right across from the exit ramp from 87-287 (also across from the drive-thru Citibank). It’s not in Tarrytown, but it is close by.

Judith Giordano some advice – I’ve lived in Tarrytown/Sleepy Hollow area over 20 years. I have lived in 3 apts and have always been fortunate to find landlords willing to let me have a dog. I let the landlord meet the dog, offer to give a little extra in deposit and allow the lease to include what I call polite dog rules – Dog on the leash, pick up after the dog, no accessive barking, have the rugs professionally cleaned, etc. I learned to take pictures of the apartment before I moved in as a record and attached them to the lease. My past 2 landlords were very much against dogs but both fell in love with my dog, praised how well behaved, quiet and good he was in the apartment. I found that landlords of 2- 3 family homes are more flexible. The complex near TGIF on Rte 119 does allow larger dogs, but you may get more space for the same money in a multi-family home. Craigslist.org is a good place to find apartments rented by owners, which will save on realtor fees as well. And if they explain the situation, they may be able to find a landlord who has posted no pets – willing to allow the dog. I live in webber park in sleepy hollow – 2 bedrooms go for 1400 – 2200 depending on size, age and condition. It is a popular area so hard to find a place but they can be found. Good Luck to your friends, and a speedy recovery for the baby’s return to good health.
